Collapsed cast iron, eighteen feet out
The customer had been getting backups every three or four months for two years, and a succession of plumbers kept cabling it clear. We ran the camera through the cleanout and found the actual problem: the cast-iron drain line had collapsed about eighteen feet from the basement, partly blocked by soil coming in through the crack. Cabling was never going to fix that.
Thirty-foot trench and a full PVC replacement

Landscaping restored and the sidewalk concrete patched to city spec.

Three days: dig and disconnect, lay pipe and inspect, backfill and restore. The city inspector signed off on slope and connection. Total was $9,800 including permit, restoration and inspection — against $300 a quarter forever for a problem cabling could never solve.
